REQUIREMENTS
SCALES
-Students will play four major scales in addition to chromatic. (See chart below)
-Scales do NOT have to be memorized.

-There is a TWO MINUTE time limit to perform four major scales and chromatic, in that order.
-When time runs out, the student stops playing, and a score of zero is entered for any unfinished scales.

SOLO
Audition solos are the same as those of the East Central District Bandmasters Association.
Wind Solo will NOT include "A or B" endings
SIGHT READING
Students will receive 30 seconds to look over the sight reading excerpt.
Students are NOT allowed to play during the preparatory.
The judge will announce when it is time to play the excerpt.
If students start early, the performance time begins (1 minute).
Students may play a warm up note before sight reading performance.
Students will get 1 minute to perform/complete the sight reading.
Keyboard percussionists are allowed to touch the keys during the ‘preparatory time’ but not with mallets.
Other percussionists may tap rhythms on legs (NOT instruments).

OTHER AUDITION REGULATIONS
Use of performance aids or devices such as recordings, metronomes, and tuners will not be allowed during the audition process. This includes but is not limited to smartwatches, cell phones, headphones/earbuds, etc. Use of these devices is grounds for disqualification.
